New Media Arts Apprenticeship 2015
The use of deadly force has become so standard in the US that every 28 hours an unarmed black person is shot by a police or vigilante for the State.
We, the youth producers from EVC's New Media Arts Apprentice program, created this transmedia project with a goal of Bridging the Gap between the community and the police.
This website aims to stir up dialogue between youth, community and the police, exposing ineffective policing practices and moving towards a solution. We've remixed EVC's youth documentaries to ground us with historical perspective and heard from community leaders, activists, lawyers, and organizers. This website offers their diverse perspectives on the issue and suggested solutions -- with the hope it can move us to understand and act.
We feel all voices are much-needed as part of the conversation to find necessary solutions for healing, grief, and transformation to take place in our communities and the NYPD.

ISSUES WITH POLICE TACTICS
CARTOONS FOR JUSTICE!
Fight against Injustice
"Look at me. I'm not a big person for cops. They take it to another level. I got a summons because I was parked by a bus stop for 3 min. I was walking to my car when three cops came behind me. It was dark. When I received the summons they were really rude. They asked if I had ID. I said let me open my car to get it. I felt extremely threatened. I got a ticket for $125 that took me 2-3 months to get dismissed. When I went to dispute the summons, it was mostly all people of color in my area."
"The cops messed with me when I was their age. What brings me out here, this is a war against black and brown people and we can't be silent. It's great that NY is showing solidarity for Baltimore. The youth out there are isolated and desperate and need people in NY to say I care"
“I feel that those cops need to be retrained…they’re only suspended for breaking someone’s neck? Their names aren’t released?...I couldn’t even fit the amount of black people that died on this paper…over 300 in 2015.”
